Create A Positive Impact by Planting a Tree

Make a Positive Impact by Planting a Tree

Soleil Teal/Wyoming News

There are countless ways you can make your environmental contributions felt. If you’d like to join millions of others in the fight for Mother Earth, consider one of the most popular gifts given back to the world each year: planting a tree.

Consider these tips to properly plant a tree in your own yard.

Choose the Right Tree and Location
Depending on where you live and your desired outcome, choosing the right tree and planting location are critical factors. Larger shade trees help cool homes in warmer climates, evergreens provide privacy and fruit trees offer a grocery store right in your backyard. Consider your available space along with conditions that will impact the tree itself, such as soil conditions, sun exposure, drainage and more.

Dig Safely
Before digging, remember that proper tree placement requires factoring in underground utility lines, overhead power lines and proximity to sidewalks, driveways and homes. Dial 811, the national call-before-you-dig number, to locate underground utilities and consider contacting an arborist or tree care professional to make sure you’ve weighed all the important factors.

Break Ground
Dig a hole that’s roughly 2-3 times wider than the root ball of your tree and equally as deep as the root ball. Be sure the trunk flare (where the trunk expands at the base of the tree) is partially visible when planted. Remove any wrapping or cover from the root ball and trunk. Lift from the root ball, not the trunk, to place in the hole then straighten vertically and firmly backfill soil around the root ball to stabilize.

Add Mulch
Mulching helps maintain moisture and improve soil conditions while controlling weed growth. Place a 2-3-inch layer in a 3-foot radius around the base of the tree without touching the trunk itself.

Keep Soil Moist
Make sure your tree has enough water to grow strong by keeping the soil moist. Typically, this means watering just once per week, barring rain, but may require more frequency during especially hot weather.

Wyoming And Montana Republican Governors, Two Of The 24 U.S. Governors Rejecting Biden’s Hand-Over Of U.S. National Sovereignty to World Health Organization (WHO)

WASHINGTON, DC – As the Biden administration is setting the stage to hand control of America’s health care system and U.S. national sovereignty over to the World Health Organization (WHO) next week, 24 Republican governors sent a letter today to Joe Biden to state their united opposition to two amendments to the existing International Health Regulations (IHRs) and Pandemic Agreement (Treaty) currently under negotiation that would grant the WHO unprecedented and unconstitutional powers over United States citizens.
The 77th World Health Assembly (WHA) will take place beginning from May 27 to June 1 in Geneva, Switzerland. The WHA is the WHO’s decision-making body and meets annually to plan its goals and design policies for its 194 member nations.
The Biden administration plans to bypass the U.S. Senate requirement for a 2/3 vote on a treaty by unilaterally signing the WHO’s proposed Pandemic Agreement and amendments to the International Health Regulations that will drastically expand the WHO’s global authority.
In the letter the governors state, “These proposed accords aim to significantly alter the amendments to the WHO’s existing International Health Regulations (IHRs) and introduce a new ‘Pandemic Agreement’ (Treaty) that would undermine national sovereignty, infringe upon states’ rights, and jeopardize constitutionally guaranteed freedoms
The objective of these instruments is to empower the WHO, particularly its uncontrollable Director-General, with the authority to restrict the rights of U.S. citizens, including freedoms such as speech, privacy, travel, choice of medical care, and informed consent, thus violating our Constitution’s core principles.

If adopted, these agreements would seek to elevate the WHO from an advisory body to a global authority in public health. Under the proposed amendments and treaty, the WHO’s Director-General would supposedly gain unilateral power to declare a ‘public health emergency of international concern’ (PHEIC) in member nations, extending beyond pandemics to include a range of perceived emergencies.”

The governors continue, “Furthermore, these instruments would erode sovereignty by granting the WHO’s Director-General the authority to dictate responses to a declared PHEIC, stripping elected representatives of their role in setting public health policies and compelling citizens to comply with WHO directives, potentially including mandates regarding medical treatments.

Additional concerns arise regarding the establishment of a global surveillance infrastructure and requirements for member states to censor speech related to public health, potentially facilitating the proliferation of biological weapons.

As governors, we affirm that public health policy is a matter reserved for the states, not the federal government, and certainly not international bodies like the WHO. We are committed to resisting any attempts to transfer authority to the WHO over public policy affecting our citizens or any efforts by the WHO to assert such authority over them.”
The governors that signed the letter include: Governor Kay Ivey (AL), Governor Mike Dunleavy (AK), Governor Sarah Sanders (AR), Governor Ron DeSantis (FL), Governor Brian Kemp (GA), Governor Brad Little (ID), Governor Eric Holcomb (IN), Governor Kim Reynolds (IA), Governor Jeff Landry (LA), Governor Tate Reeves (MS), Governor Greg Gianforte (MT), Governor Jim Pillen (NE), Governor Joe Lombardo (NV), Governor Chris Sununu (NH), Governor Doug Burgum (ND), Governor Kevin Stitt (OK), Governor Henry McMaster (SC), Governor Kristi Noem (SD), Governor Bill Lee (TN), Governor Greg Abbott (TX), Governor Spencer Cox (UT), Governor Glenn Youngkin (VA), Governor Jim Justice (WV), and Governor Mark Gordon (WY).

Previously, 22 state Attorneys Generals sent a letter to Biden opposing the WHO’s proposed International Health Regulations and the new Pandemic Treaty stating that “we will resist any attempt to enable the WHO to directly or indirectly set public policy for our citizens.”
In addition, 49 Republican U.S. Senators also sent a letter to Joe Biden calling on his administration to “withdraw” its support for two international agreements that would cede the nation’s sovereignty during public health emergencies to the WHO. The senators called the proposed plan “unacceptable.”

The United Kingdom, along with 15 other nations, including Members of Parliament from Australia and Israel, have publicly opposed the WHO because of concerns on national sovereignty.

Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “The Republican governors have joined the growing chorus of voices to stop Joe Biden’s unconstitutional plans to unilaterally place America under the global authority of the World Health Organization. We cannot hand the sovereignty of this nation over to a foreign agency of the United Nations.”
President Biden is a threat to National Security, and the public security and saftey, he must be removed from office this 2024 Presidential Election. Make Sure you vote for President Donald J. Trump as he will once again make America Great Again.

Cheyenne Police Crack Down On Rampant Shoplifting

CHEYENNE, Wy — To help reduce retail thefts and to hold those committing crimes
accountable, the Cheyenne Police Department’s Crime Prevention Team (CPT) conducted
several pre-planned shoplifting enforcement operations throughout the month of April.
Crime analytics helped officers determine hotspots for shoplifting and select specific retail stores.

The operations were successful in arresting 22 suspects for shoplifting-related offenses.
Five suspects had outstanding warrants and four were cited for possession of
methamphetamine/fentanyl in addition to the theft charges. Stolen property was seized by

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Cahuvin stabbed 22 times in Federal prison

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Cahuvin, who murdered George Floyd back in May of 2020, is now himself facing justice from the inmate population in an Arizona prison where he is residing.

Federal inmate John Turscak stabbed the former Minneapolis police officer Derek Cahuvin 22 times with a makeshift shank knife at the Arizona Federal prison in Tucson last November.

Then Officer, Derek Chauvin sparked a nationwide protest called Black Lives Matter.

Former officer Chauvin was sent to the Tucson Federal prison to serve his simultaneous sentences for violations of George Floyd’s civil rights and a second-degree murder charge.

Not long ago, the Supreme Court had rejected Chauvin’s  appeal of his murder conviction.

According to court records, Turscak was contemplating killing the former Minneapolis police officer and decided to stab him on Black Friday, because of the Black Lives Matter movement in an attempt to serve final justice to the former cop, Derek Chauvin.

Turscak stated he was thinking about hurting Chauvin for several months prior to the stabbing incident.

Take Not Pity On A Scoundrel

By Marc Kelley

America is a nation of kind and generous people. When we see someone who needs help to get back on their feet we do not turn away; but rather, offer our hand. Once you have again regained your footing, we expect you to have gained a deeper understanding of what it takes to help not only yourself but also the people who come after you, the people who have themselves fallen on hard times. We do this willingly because it is the right thing to do, rather than seeing it as a chance to signal our superior virtue. We learned these lessons from our parents, our grandparents, and from the teachings of yet another, who was looked upon with disfavor by the uninformed and fearful self-proclaimed members of the elite within society’s inner circles.

The media of late has begun mocking Donald Trump for his use of parables, as he delivers his message to America. Perhaps it is not by their own ignorance of the subject matter; but rather, because in their laziness they have failed to even consider the message. Most of us know exactly how it feels to have our backs against the wall, forced to choose a path, and face circumstances for which there are very few good options. We have all been burned, disappointed, and abandoned by those who professed in good times to be our friend, then when their support truly mattered, chose to remain silent and in the end turned away, as if we had outlived our usefulness. This reality however in no way relieves us from our responsibility to do the right thing. We have learned it is not through religious dogma nor high moral standing we endure, but rather, by the understanding…there but for the Grace of God go I.

In America, we see value in working hard to get ahead. We are pragmatic people who believe in the value of self-sufficiency. We have learned our survival requires us to use the brains the Good Lord gave us. To open our eyes and see for ourselves, to believe only half of what we hear and none of what we see on the evening news. From our earliest days we have been warned…be suspicious of anyone who tells you they are from the government and they are here to help and serve The People. As much as we despise the thought, we understand, there are those who walk among us who will never change their nature. Try as we may, we accept the reality, that people will only change when they see that change is in their own best interest. As much as we would like to change human nature, experience has taught us it is imperative we remain vigilant and maintain a safe distance from those who think only of their own benefit.

Fables have been used for millennia by politicians and leaders alike, who understood speaking out openly against an authoritarian ruling party would be met with persecution and punishment. This punishment, if the truth actually be told, is not directed at the single individual who is himself speaking out; but rather, is used as a warning to those who follow. This heretic you so adore will bring you only pain and suffering. You have fallen under the spell of an apostate, not the messenger Gabriel. If you know what is best for you and yours, you must believe, it is we who have your best interest at heart and it is we who will always be by your side. Deceit, dishonesty, and greed have long been the standard for retail politicians. Believing their verbal sleight of hand and ever-changing definition of the truth will simply go unnoticed by those they see as little more than the great unwashed. Politicians believe it is by their superior understanding of how the world should be, they are justified in saying one thing in public, then laughing behind our backs, working not in the best interest of The People, but rather for their own enrichment. Finding a way to deliver a message directly to the people, in plain language and using the words of the common man, is a gift sought by many, yet accomplished by few. Choosing to stand tall and speak out against tyranny when you are outgunned and outnumbered, demands understanding, your survival depends upon your ability to keep your wits about you. Being clever may well be your only saving grace and being clever, brings with it a formidable type of power. It is here where we find the usefulness and the truth which lies within a fable. A fable is a short story in which many lessons include an animal that not only takes on human characteristics but also teaches the lessons and the consequences of poor choices.

On her way to work one morning

Down the path alongside the lake

A tender-hearted woman saw a poor half half-frozen snake

His pretty colored skin had been all frosted with the dew

“Oh well,” she cried, “I’ll take you in, and I will take care of you”

“Take me in oh tender woman

take me in, for heaven’s sake

take me in oh tender woman”, sighed the snake

She wrapped him up all cozy in a curvature of silk

and laid him by the fireside with some honey and some milk.

Now she hurried home from work that night and soon as she arrived,

she found that pretty snake that she’d been caring for had indeed now been revived.

“Take me in, oh tender woman

take me in, for heaven’s sake

take me in oh tender woman”, sighed the snake

Now she clutched him to her bosom, “You’re so beautiful,” she cried

but if I hadn’t brought you in, by now you might have died.”

Now she stroked his pretty skin and then she kissed and held him tight

but instead of saying thank you, that snake gave her a vicious bite

“Take me in, oh tender woman

take me in, for heaven’s sake

take me in oh tender woman”, sighed the snake

“I saved you” cried that woman

“And now you’ve bitten me but why?

You know your bite is poisonous, and now I’m going to die”

“Oh shut up, silly woman”, said the reptile with a grin

“You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in.”

This story, of course, is a modified version of Aesop’s Fable, “The Farmer and the Viper.” There are many in America today who believe our country is filled with relics of the past and the ideals that represent only the days of long gone by. It is easy to mock and make fun of someone who you do not understand, yet it is that very lack of understanding that allows your worst fears to worry your days and haunt your nights. The cleverness or perhaps brilliance some may say in using fables to convey a message can be found not only in the words but so much more brilliantly within the images they conjure in the minds of the listener.

The lesson that comes from the reading of fables is unique to the reader. Our interpretation is based on our own lived experiences. So then, what does Trump’s use of the fable mean to you? Is it a message warning of the perils of trusting in an authoritarian government? Is it a message warning to our country about the dangers of an open border? Is it condemnation of the self-proclaimed elites who live a life of luxury, flaunting a rakish and indolent lifestyle, acquired not by their own hand; but rather, by utilizing the immoral trappings of a politician dressed in sheep’s clothing?

The answer of course depends upon your perspective and your life’s experiences. No person can tell another what to think and expect to have sway simply with their words. Who alone can say the habits that grow from laziness and ignorance are in and of themselves less dangerous than evil alone? Only when we consider the behavior of those who so unashamedly cling to power at all cost, can we truly see that cruelty, crimes, and antisocial acts have become so commonplace, that they are now routinely dismissed as “normal behavior.” It is exactly in this revelation that we can truly understand the words written by a former Greek slave in the 6th Century BC when he counseled… learn from my fate and take not pity on a scoundrel.

Pit Bulls The Guardians Of Their Masters

Thursday night, I was sitting in my garage smoking a cigarette. Horrible habit, I know.

4 young men rushed me, decided they wanted my car, beat me up, and wanted my keys. I told them the keys were in the house. They decided to go in.

What they weren’t expecting were my 2 80lb Pit Bulls. They are sweethearts and the kindest dogs you’ll ever know, but protect their home and owner with finesse.

My beautiful babies charged these assholes and stood over me as I laid on the floor of my garage, forever protecting me. They are rescues. Unwanted dogs.

They saved my life. Please consider adopting a rescue. They might save your life too.

Learn CPR as a Life-Saving Skill

Soleil Teal / Wyoming News

While many Americans agree Conventional CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) or Hands-Only CPR (HOCPR) significantly improve a person’s chance of survival from cardiac arrest, less than half are confident they can perform either Conventional CPR or HOCPR in an emergency.

Black or Hispanic adults who experience cardiac arrest outside a hospital setting are substantially less likely to receive lifesaving care from a bystander. In spite of these survey results, the American Heart Association is working to change this by empowering members of these communities to learn lifesaving CPR, and a growing segment of respondents are willing to act in an emergency.
The American Heart Association’s 2023 survey also revealed that as a result of the organization’s efforts to change attitudes about performing CPR, which can lead to lifesaving results, more than half of African Americans said they would be willing to perform CPR in an emergency compared to 37% two years ago. Additionally, Hispanic and Latino respondents are more confident in their abilities to perform CPR.

Committed to turning a nation of bystanders into lifesavers, the American Heart Association’s multiyear initiative, Nation of Lifesavers, helps teens and adults learn how to perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED); share that knowledge with friends and family; and engage employers, policymakers, philanthropists and others to create support for a nation of lifesavers.

“Each of us has the power in our own hands to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest,” said Anezi Uzendu, M.D., American Heart Association expert volunteer. “We simply need to know what to do and have the confidence to act.”

https://youtube.com/watch?v=QiLHKnmfs-A%3Fmodestbranding%3D1%26rel%3D0%26showinfo%3D0

The long-term goal: to ensure that in the face of a cardiac emergency, anyone, anywhere is prepared and empowered to perform CPR and become a vital link in the chain of survival, aiming to double the survival rate of cardiac arrest victims by 2030. It takes just 90 seconds to learn how to save a life using HOCPR, which can be equally as effective as traditional CPR in the first few minutes of cardiac arrest.

Nationally supported by the Elevance Health Foundation, the American Heart Association’s HOCPR campaign is focused on chest compression-only CPR. If a teen or adult suddenly collapses due to a cardiac event, you can take two steps to save a life: immediately call emergency services and use these tips to begin performing HOCPR.

  1. Position yourself directly over the victim.
  2. Put the heel of one hand in the center of the chest and put your other hand on top of the first.
  3. Push hard and fast in the center of the chest at a rate of 100-120 beats per minute, which is about the same tempo as the song “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees, and at a depth of approximately 2 inches.
  4. Continue compressions and use an AED, if available, until emergency help arrives.
